Catania, 26 November 2009. Working on a partnership on the Norwegian-Island -Licht. Financial mechanism (www.eeagrants.sk), a Slovak delegation from the Region of Zilina met the EUROPE DIRECT center in Catania.
This delegation, leaded by Viera Terekovà (District office Liptovsky Mikulas) and Gejza Petrik (Minister of the Slovenska Republic), Jana Bracinikova (Head of Section of regional development and spatial planning in Zilina)
and composed by experts on development policies of the Zilina self-governing region – Jaroslav Pecho, Juraj Pukac, Andrea Spankova, Marcela Herichova and Alena Micicova
discussed with Mrs. Marina Galeazzi, architect and speaker of the Mayor, and with Social policies assessor Mr. Marco Belluardo, the main matters where a could be interesting to set up a partnership.
After a typical lunch near the Norman castle and a short visit to its museum, in the afternoon the delegation had a briefing at the Europe Direct office, where the work done was synthetically reported in the following summary: a) tourism and the way to give values to traditional handicraft and cuisine seems to be the main matters for a cooperation; b) the termal (spa) dimension could be interesting in the perspective of social policies about health care; c) new environmental policies may be interesting especially in the field of experimentation of energy by biomasses.
The meeting ended in a real joyful atmosphere and the participants agreed on the opportunity to give follow up to this first meeting, also involving the representative of both Regions in Brussels, while identified the common ground of cooperation.
