On January 1st 2014 Latvia entered the euro zone; it is the 18th State to join. The European Commission indicated on 6th January 2014 that after only four days into using the euro two thirds of cash payments in shops had been exclusively made in euros. Moreover nearly all clients (95%) received change in euros.
